First Job Coaching by TalentScout
Ready to work.
Let’s find a way in.
I help your young person learn how to look for work—and support them while they put it into practice.
Practical, personal coaching for school leavers, graduates and young people entering the trades.
Let’s talk about coaching ↗Parents can fund the support. Your young person takes ownership.
A little guidance. A clearer next step.
When applications lead to silence, where do you start?
They’ve finished school, earned a degree or completed a pre-trade qualification. They’re ready to work, but unanswered applications and rejection are knocking their confidence.
As a parent, you want to help. Sometimes an independent person can help turn advice into action.
Throughout my 25 years in recruitment, I’ve coached people on how to present their strengths, approach employers and navigate the hiring process. Through TalentScout, I bring that experience to young people finding their first opportunity.
What we work on together
Practical skills.
Confidence through action.
Step-by-step support, shaped around where your young person is now and what they need next.
01 / FIND A DIRECTION
Choose suitable opportunities
Identify strengths, interests and realistic entry roles, then build a focused list of prospective employers.
02 / SHOW THEIR STRENGTHS
Make their CV work harder
Bring out relevant skills from study, projects, part-time work and life experience. Tailor the CV to the opportunity.
03 / MAKE IT PERSONAL
Write emails that have a purpose
Move beyond a generic application. Explain why they’re interested and what they could contribute.
04 / START A CONVERSATION
Approach the right people
Find suitable contacts, practise picking up the phone and learn when a direct approach or formal application is appropriate.
05 / BE READY
Prepare for interviews
Practise introductions, answers and questions so they can talk about themselves with clarity and confidence.
06 / KEEP MOVING
Follow up and build momentum
Create manageable next steps, track approaches and learn how to respond to silence or rejection.
How coaching works
Support alongside them.
Ownership stays with them.
01 / TALK
Understand the situation
Start with a conversation about their goals, what they’ve tried and whether coaching is a good fit. We’ll discuss the support and fees before you commit.
02 / PRACTISE
Build skills together
Work on their CV, messages and employer conversations, with practical feedback and rehearsal.
03 / ACT
Put it into practice
They send the emails, make the calls and follow through. I help them review progress and decide what to do next.
Recent coaching examples
Different starting points.
Meaningful progress.
Plumbing apprenticeship search
From six months searching to a chance to show his skills.
A young person had been looking for a plumbing apprenticeship for six months. My recruitment network helped connect him with the CEO of a company looking for an apprentice.
With coaching and support, he wrote the emails, made the calls and followed through.
After two weeks of coaching, he secured a two-week trial.
An apprenticeship had not yet been confirmed at the time of this example. This coaching was provided without charge to a family friend.
Law graduate job search
From 30+ applications to an entry-level legal role.
A recent law graduate had received rejection or no response to more than 30 applications. We revisited a firm she had already applied to and identified the right hiring manager.
She emailed him directly and offered to take him for a coffee to introduce herself and explain what she could contribute.
Within a month of starting coaching, she secured an entry-level legal role at that firm.
These are individual examples, not a promise of employment or a particular timeframe. Introductions depend on relevance and availability; access to a specific employer is not guaranteed.
Questions parents and young people ask
A clear starting point.
Who is this for?
School leavers, graduates and young people entering the trades who would benefit from practical help with their first job search. They don’t need to have it all figured out, but they do need to be willing to participate.
Can a parent pay for the coaching?
Yes. Parents can fund the support, while the young person is the coaching client. We agree at the outset how parents will be involved and what progress updates will be shared.
Will you apply for jobs for them?
The young person makes the approaches and submits the applications. I guide, practise and give feedback so they develop skills they can use throughout their working life.
How much does coaching cost?
This is a paid coaching service. We’ll discuss the support required, fees and arrangements during the initial conversation, before you decide whether to proceed.
Does coaching guarantee a job?
No. Hiring decisions belong to employers. Coaching helps young people improve their approach, practise the skills they need and take purposeful action.
